Project

Thompson Pools Ltd remains a family-owned business, based in Waikato New Zealand. They provide swimming pool installation services and have been doing so for more than 60 years. Today the local company is currently operating and is able to attract potential clients through word of mouth from former clients.

Goal

The goal was to create a website where Thompson pool ltd are able to showcase their portfolio, service, and workflow. Many of their former clients found it difficult connecting to the company and trusting their services as they were not able to showcase the pools they had installed. Thompson pools primary source of attracting potential customers was through word of mouth.

Define and Discover

Challenge

Thompson pool has little online presence. Their primary source of attracting potential clients was through word of mouth. This limits potential clients needing their services from the broader region of Waikato. Thompson Pool required a website to properly present what they do, types of work they offer, how they work, and how client can contact them to request a quote.

Needs

  • There needs to be more transparency with how the company work.
  • For future clients to know what Thompson pool ltd specialise in.
  • For Thompson pools ltd to show their past projects.
  • For Thompson pool ltd to cut out the pool jargon in order for clients to understand.

Insights

  • Clients want to know or get a general idea with pool installation.
  • Clients don't know what types of pool Thompson pool ltd provide and install.
  • Clients are less likely to work with pool installation companies when they use too much jargon.
  • Image is important for clients when choosing a pool installation service.

Mock examples

Based on research and experience, former clients did not know the steps and procedures for a swimming pool installation or redo. The goal of the Process section is to give the user a walkthrough of the whole process, so they are able to understand how Thompson Pool work, enabling clients to be more prepared. Whilst doing market research, a lot of their competitors that were a specialist at installing one type of pool had a page dedicated on educating the user. We found that is was overwhelming as there were unnecessary jargon that normal people would not understand. Our goal was to give a basic understanding on the type of pools and what they offer.
